In a world that is spinning faster every day, where information floods our minds and rapid technological developments dominate our lives, philosophy – the art of reflecting on fundamental questions – serves as an anchor in a storm. But why do I devote time and energy to engage deeply with a discipline that some may consider abstract or impractical? The answer is as diverse as life itself.

Here are some of the reasons why I engage with philosophy – not just as an intellectual exercise, but as a way of living, one that helps me find orientation and actively shape how I experience and interact with the world.

1. Finding Truth in the Overload of Information

We live in an age of data deluge. Every day we are confronted with countless pieces of information and opinions – but which of these are true? Philosophy gives me the tools to question and organize thoughts, allowing me to critically analyze and distinguish between conviction and fact, between half-truth and objectivity.

2. Arguing Better, Understanding Better

Philosophy trains the art of argumentation. In a polarized world where opinions are often loudly expressed without substance, it helps me remain rational, articulate my thoughts clearly, and stay open to other perspectives. Engaging in debates requires tact and respect – both of which are nurtured through philosophy.

3. Living the Everyday More Consciously

Philosophy is far from being an abstract discipline detached from life – on the contrary. It inspires me to experience every moment more consciously and to approach my daily life more reflectively. What values are important to me? What can I do to bring more happiness and fulfillment into my life? By asking questions like "What is happiness?" philosophy opens the door to a more meaningful existence.

4. Setting Priorities and Questioning Values

In a hectic world full of distractions, philosophy shows me what truly matters. It helps me understand my values and live in alignment with them. It challenges me to question religions, norms, and societal dogmas, not to fall into relativism, but to discover an authentic truth beyond conformity.

5. Ethics in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

With the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence, I am increasingly confronted with complex ethical questions: How should humans and machines coexist? What principles should guide the use of AI for the common good? Philosophy teaches me to look beyond the immediate and critically examine the moral implications of technological innovation, rather than blindly trusting progress.

6. Unmasking Populism and Strengthening Democracy

Philosophical thinking helps me uncover manipulative strategies and see through populist rhetoric. In a time when simple solutions and slogans are often popular, philosophy reminds me of the importance of fostering free societies through critical thinking and democratic action. Democracy is not a given but a responsibility that requires reflective and engaged citizens.

7. Placing Humanity at the Center

Whether it's about interpersonal relationships, friendships, or the protection of nature, philosophy helps me view the world as a unified whole. It sharpens my focus on what truly matters, reminds me of the respect we owe all forms of life, and of the responsibility we bear for our planet. Because ultimately, isn’t humanity, love, and the preservation of nature what truly counts?

8. Constantly Questioning Myself

Philosophy is a lifelong exercise in thinking and reflecting. It demands that I never consider my own convictions as final. The desire to “be myself” is central – but philosophy also pushes me to constantly reinvent myself and embrace change. Every philosopher knows: true freedom only arises when one is willing to question oneself.

9. Finding Meaning in Life and the Moment

We all search for meaning, whether in the pursuit of knowledge, the enjoyment of art, or the fleeting moments of everyday life. Philosophy gives me the tools to explore this need without expecting easy answers. Engaging with philosophy isn’t about finding ready-made solutions but an invitation to embrace the questions themselves.

10. Rebelling Against Indifference

Indifference is the enemy of a vibrant life. To philosophize is to refuse to passively accept the world but instead to awaken, to ask questions, and to stay attuned to what is happening around us. Whether it is social injustice, environmental destruction, or personal despair, the philosophical mindset drives me to act and take responsibility.

11. Staying Mentally and Emotionally Fit for Life

Even as I grow older, I want to continue learning, staying curious and mentally agile, and engaging with topics that inspire me. Philosophy is like mental exercise – it keeps me sharp and broadens my horizons. It shows me that finiteness is not a threat, but a motivation. There is always so much more to discover!

Conclusion: An Invitation to Think and Live

My engagement with philosophy is not an end in itself but a journey, an adventure. It helps me perceive life as something intense and meaningful. Philosophy challenges me, but it also brings me calm. It offers me the opportunity to live more consciously, to embrace new ideas, and to remain open – to the world, to others, and to myself.

Philosophy is not merely an intellectual pastime; it is a lifeline that keeps me content, curious, and awake – whether I’m pondering life’s great ethical questions or simply enjoying its small, everyday joys.

I invite everyone to continue this journey with me. Up for a new train of thought?
